Research fellowship

About the Fellowship

The Canadian War Museum is dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Original research supports the public’s experience, understanding, and appreciation of the Museum’s central role: exploring Canada’s military past in its personal, national and international dimensions.

In support of this commitment, the Museum launched a Research Fellowship program in 2023. This program hosts on-site work by postgraduate scholars and provides unique research access to Museum collections and experts. Fellows’ projects will enhance the Museum’s standing as a centre for leading scholarly research and public military history.

This is a funded program sustained by generous public donations and administered in trust.

The 2023–2024 Research Fellow

The Museum’s Research Fellow for 2023 is Brittany Dunn, who has joined the Museum from Wilfrid Laurier University. As a scholar, Brittany has studied death and grief in the Great War, and is excited to have the opportunity to explore artifacts, objects and artwork from the Museum’s collection around that difficult topic.

Call for applications 2024–2025

The Research Fellowship is open to a postgraduate scholar conducting original research into the broad field of Canadian military history, with a focus on material culture and intangible cultural heritage. It is a one-year, non-renewable appointment, typically starting in September of each award year.

The next call for applications is expected to launch in spring 2024. Please revisit this web page for more information.
