Canadian soldiers serving at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan did not let the fact that they were in the middle of a war zone stop them from playing hockey. They built a rink for ball-hockey. The players enjoyed the friendly competition and the connection to home.
When Canada’s mission in Afghanistan ended in 2014, the rink was disassembled, but not destroyed. The Canadian War Museum has preserved this panel as a symbol of the hardship and courage of those who served.
