Peacekeepers

A painting of people walking down a street in Haiti.

Haitian-born Canadian Marc-Bernard Philippe painted this scene depicting interactions between Haitians and Canadians serving with the United Nations. The Creole text, translated, reads “Thank you, Canada, for OP Pivot.” Operation PIVOT was Canada’s name for its mission in Haiti from March 1995 to March 1996. Canada contributed to the United Nations mission, which was mandated to provide security and stability to the government of Haiti.
